AWARD PRESNTED DURING PURSES WITH A PURPOSE LUNCHEON
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey was “both surprised and humbled” to receive the Dottie Gatti Philanthropic Legacy Award as part of the ceremony during Serene Harbor’s annual Purses with a Purpose event.
“Originally I thought I was at the event, along with a number of our agency team members, to show our support in the fight against Domestic Violence and to help do the auction as part of the fundraiser,” said Sheriff Ivey.
“During the luncheon, however, Executive Director Melody Keith caught me by surprise when she announced that I was this year’s recipient of the very prestigious Dottie Gatti Philanthropic Legacy Award.”
In accepting his award, Sheriff Ivey said Dottie was an amazing lady who spent the majority of her life helping others right here in the Brevard community.
“She was instrumental in helping start Serene Harbor and forever changed the lives of Domestic Violence victims for generations to come,” said Sheriff Ivey.
“Our community lost Dottie not long ago, but we will forever have her heart, her passion and her “can do attitude” in our community. To say I was humbled by this award is an understatement as Dottie was an amazing woman with an even more amazing impact on our community.
“While I was humbled to receive the award I am also well aware that the award should actually go to the members of our Special Victims Unit and Victims Advocates who do so much to protect victims of Domestic Violence in our community. What they do each and every day would without question make Dottie proud,” said Sheriff Ivey.
