BREVARD COUNTY • MIMS, FLORIDA – The Society of Health and Physical Education (SHAPE) Nebraska has announced College of Saint Mary student Keona Cadore, a senior from Mims, Florida, will receive the Sport & Exercise Science Major of the Year award.

She will be honored at this year’s SHAPE Nebraska Awards Celebration during the SHAPE NE Fall Conference, Monday, November 5.

“I’m so excited to be receiving the award,” said Cadore. “It’s a really cool opportunity and I’m honored that Dr. Shim nominated me.”

The SHAPE Nebraska Major of the Year award celebrates outstanding undergraduate students in fields promoting health, physical education, recreation, and dance.

In order to qualify for the distinguished award, a student must be on track to a degree within a designated field, have displayed strong academic performance, and stand out through school or community service.

Cadore earns the award after excelling academically and using sports and exercise science to positively impact others in the community. In addition to excelling in the classroom, she regularly works as a CNA with the Brevard Alzheimer’s Foundation.

She is also an active part of the CSM community. Cadore is a member of the Flames basketball team, is a Green Team participant, and is the Vice President of the Student Sports and Exercise Science Club.

“I just love my classes and how Dr. Shim breaks everything down,” Cadore said.

“The communication is great between instructor and student. I love how he allows us to do our own research projects, especially as an undergrad.”

Upon graduation, Cadore hopes to pursue a master’s in athletic training and practice in a clinical setting or within an athletic program. The SHAPE NE Fall Conference will be held at 6 p.m. at the Cornhusker Hotel in Lincoln.
