BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The advantages and benefits of a private education have been well-researched, but the costs associated with such a high caliber of education can sometimes strike affordability fears in the hearts of parents.

Florida Preparatory Academy, under the new leadership of California-based Newopen USA, is making significant changes to its tuition awards program to help more families enjoy optimal educational opportunities for their children.

“We are moving forward with new initiatives that present exciting opportunities for our students,” said Jeanette Middleton, Florida Prep’s communications director.

Part of the change focuses on Scholastic Achievement Awards that reward high-achieving students.

“For highly qualified students, these awards could over up to half, two thirds or even the entire amount of tuition,” added Middleton.

Middle and high school students are eligible for special merit awards that range from $3,000 to full tuition amounts annually. Students will be selected according to special skills, talents and interest in STEM, art, community service, entrepreneurship, environmental stewardship and other exceptional abilities.

Additionally, students can avail themselves of awards for general academic qualifications.

For example, middle schoolers with a B-plus or above average and membership in Junior Honors Society or similar groups can receive a $3,000 academic award, while those with straight A’s can earn an $8.000 award.

High school students with a GPA of 3.9 or higher or SAT or ACT scores of 1300 or 29 or higher respectively can receive an award of $8,000.

“We are able to offer these awards because of the ongoing investment from our parent company that is committed to making possible projects and initiatives at Florida Prep unlike anything we have had before,” said Middleton.

These awards can be bundled with the Step-Up Scholarship and the recently launched Hope Scholarships, both offered by the State of Florida.

Florida Prep is now accepting boys and girls in grades 5-12 and will host an Open House on Monday, November 12, on their Melbourne, Florida campus. “Everything you imagine, and more, is available to your child as a day student at Florida Prep,” said Florida Tech spokesperson Jeanette Midleton.

“The Hope Scholarship is an anti-bullying scholarship that allows students to transfer to private schools if a child has been bullied,” explained Middleton.

Enhanced financial awards are only part of the new picture at Florida Prep, which is also rolling out additional initiatives that include a new STEAM program that collaborates with Florida Tech faculty to provide students with new educational opportunities and a partnership for a theatre credit program with the Henegar Center for the Arts.

Parents interested in further exploring these awards for their students are invited to attend a special open house from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 12.

The event includes a tour of the campus and meet-and-greet with students and faculty and the opportunity to shadow a student for the day. The Admissions Team will be available to conduct student interviews.
