BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – Work continues in the southern portion of Brevard County as the Florida Department of Transportation, in partnership with Brevard County and the City of Palm Bay, moves toward a completed diverging diamond interchange that will improve traffic capacity, operations and safety in southern Brevard County.

As FDOT is reaching the final phases of the interchange portion of the project, City of Palm Bay contractors are working to complete the St. Johns Heritage Parkway SE, that will connect the new interchange to Babcock Street near Davis Lane.

The St. Johns Heritage Parkway SE is a 1.67 mile stretch of road that will include four vehicle travel lanes, a seven-foot buffered bike lane in each direction, a 6-foot sidewalk, and a 12-foot multi-use path.

Construction for the city’s connector road has begun at Babcock and is moving east toward the interstate.

Project crews have started to dig the drainage ponds for the project and fill is being imported, which means motorists will begin to see the road area taking shape over the coming weeks.

The new Palm Bay southern I-95 interchange is located just north of Micco road and breaks up the nearly 20 mile stretch of highway that used to require a 45-minute detour for anyone who missed the mile marker 173 Malabar Road exit.
