80-Year-Old Cocoa Man Killed By Vehicle While Mowing Front Lawn On Friday

An 80-year-old Cocoa man was killed Friday morning by a vehicle while he was mowing his yard on the 2300 block of Michigan Avenue.

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – An 80-year-old Cocoa man was killed Friday morning by a vehicle while he was mowing his yard on the 2300 block of Michigan Avenue.

Police are withholding the man’s name until the family has been properly notified.

According to the investigation by the Cocoa police, dispatchers received a call at 10:24 a.m. from witnesses at the scene who reported a man was hit by a vehicle.

“The driver of a blue 4-door Toyota Corolla was eastbound on Michigan Avenue when she hit the man who was mowing his yard and briefly entered the roadway as she was passing by,” said Yvonne Martinez of the Cocoa Police Department.

The driver of the Corolla has been identified as 18-year-old Maekaela Sardeira from Cocoa.

Witnesses attempted to render aid to the 80-year-old man and called 911 to report the crash. However, he was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

According to Martinez, Cocoa police are currently working the incident as a traffic homicide investigation.
