Bicyclist, 28, Dies In Overnight Crash Involving A Pickup Truck on US-1 Near Sharpes

Florida Highway Patrol responded to a fatal crash involving a bicyclist and pickup truck on US-1 early Saturday morning.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Florida Highway Patrol responded to a fatal crash involving a bicyclist and pickup truck on US-1 and Pam Lem St. near Sharpes early Saturday morning.

The bicyclist has been identified as 28-year-old Justin Michael Hold from Land O’ Lakes, Florida.

According to the investigation by FHP, the driver of the Dodge Ram 1500 truck was traveling in the inside lane heading southbound around 1:22 a.m. on US-1 when he ran into the back of the Hold’s bicycle.

Troopers say the bicyclist didn’t have the proper lighting attached and “there was no ambient lighting in the area of the crash.”

Hold was taken to Rockledge Regional Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.

The driver of the truck is identified as 22-year-old Joseph John Lento from Titusville. Two passengers were also inside the truck with Lento at the time of the crash. They are identified as 25-year-old Vincent Daniel Dewan and 23-year-old Ian Reid Humphries, both from Cocoa.

Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash.
