BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA– As most of you know, the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office is comprised of many units and squads who perform very important functions around the clock to protect our citizens.

To better introduce you to our team, from time to time we post employee and unit spotlights so you can get to know the incredible men and women of your Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.

I am extremely proud to introduce you to Corporal John Ready, the School Resource Deputy at Viera High School and Corporal Breean Lewis, the School Resource Deputy at Cape View Elementary School, who have both been named the “Employees of the Year” at their respective schools.

CPL. JOHN READY

Corporal Ready was recognized as the 2018-2019 Employee of the Year for Viera High School because of his outstanding relationships with the administration, staff, and students and for conducting thorough investigations to ensure the safety of everyone at the school.

As the nomination noted, Corporal Ready embodies Viera High School’s mission of Support, Inspire and Motivate, as he provides positive guidance and direction.

In order to make this impact, John displayed significant initiative in carrying out his duties with diligence, building trustworthy relationships with the students and staff.

John is considered a team player, always pitching in to help wherever needed.

Corporal Breean Lewis, the School Resource Deputy at Cape View Elementary School was named the “Employees of the Year” at her school for 2018-19.

CPL. BREEAN LEWIS

Corporal Lewis was also recognized as the 2018-2019 Employee of the Year for Cape View Elementary School for her outstanding efforts when she observed a suspicious person in the school car loop, driving a vehicle.

Breean asked the individual to step out of the vehicle and subsequently observed him putting the vehicle in drive and bending forward to reach for something in the glove compartment.

At that time, Breean noticed a handgun in the suspect’s lap, so Corporal Lewis opened the driver’s door, grabbed the firearm with one hand to secure it from his possession, and then restrained the suspect with her other hand.

Breean was able to remove the suspect away from the vehicle and secure the firearm.

Corporal John Ready, the School Resource Deputy at Viera High School was named 2018-19 Employee of the Year for his school.

In the nomination letter, Breean was described as creative and helpful, and has earned the respect of the students, staff, and parents because of her open communication and positive attitude.

As Sheriff, I could not be more proud of John and Breean for their incredible service to our community and dedication to keeping our community and schools safe.

The impact they are making in their respective schools is absolutely amazing and is a shining example of our incredible partnership with Brevard Public Schools.
