Eastern Florida Men’s Basketball To Host New Year’s Josh Artis Memorial Classic

Titans will get things started Dec. 30 when they play Miami Dade

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College men’s basketball team will ring in the new year by hosting the Josh Artis Memorial Classic.

The Titans will get things started Dec. 30 when they play Miami Dade at 6 Titan Field House at 6 p.m. Miami Dade comes into the contest 5-10 and Eastern Florida State College won the first meeting 102-90 at Miami Dade.

The Titans have won 10 in a row in the series dating back to the 2014-15 season.

The Sharks are led by DJ Russell who comes into the tournament averaging 19.8 points per game and have five players averaging at least 10 points per game as the team scores an average of 104 points per game.

Then the Sharks will face Monroe College in the first of two games on Dec. 31. The game will tip off at 4 p.m. Monroe College comes into the tournament 8-4 and have four players who are averaging at least 10 points per game.

The Titans will host the 12-3 Harcum College Bears in the second game of the evening and are averaging 96 points per game led by Valdir Manuel’s 15.9 points per game.

Eastern Florida State College is 2-1 in the past three seasons against Harcum and come into the tournament 11-4 with four players averaging double figures in scoring.

On Jan. 1 the action begins at 2 p.m. as Harcum will play Miami Dade and then the Titans will play Monroe College at 4 p.m.

The tournament will wrap up on Wednesday, Jan. 2 when Harcum will play the College of Central Florida at Titan Field House at 2 p.m.

It is the third year of the Josh Artis Memorial Classic. Josh Artis was a former player of head coach Jeremy Shulman who lost his battle with cancer in 2016 at the age of 29.

Admission is free to basketball games at Titan Field House on the Melbourne campus.
