Florida Tech’ Linebacker J.T. Hassell Named Nominee for Cliff Harris Award

Florida Tech linebacker J.T. Hassell has been announced as a nominee for the 6th annual Cliff Harris Award by the Little Rock Touchdown Club and Wright Lindsey Jennings.

LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS – Florida Tech linebacker J.T. Hassell has been announced as a nominee for the 6th annual Cliff Harris Award by the Little Rock Touchdown Club and Wright Lindsey Jennings.

The prestigious Cliff Harris Award presented to the small college defensive player of the year representing more than 5,000 defensive players from almost 500 NCAA Division II, III, and NAIA colleges and universities.

In addition to the Cliff Harris Award overall winner, the top vote-getter from each division will also be announced.

It’s been quite a year for Hassell, a redshirt-senior out of Titusville, Florida. He was named the GSC Defensive Player of the Year after leading the conference in tackles (124), solo tackles (76) and forced fumbles (3).

Hassell received First Team All-GSC honors for the first in his career this season. Additionally, he was tabbed a First Team All-Region selection by the D2CCA and a First Team All-America by the AFCA. Hassell was also a nominee for the Harlon Hill Division II Player of the Year Award.

Hassell is set to compete in the 2018 National Bowl this Sunday, Dec. 9, at Daytona Stadium in Daytona Beach, Fla. The National Bowl is an annual post-season college football all-star game consisting of players below Division I/FBS/FCS.

The bowl showcases All-American and All-Conference seniors from around the nation and gives them the opportunity to play in front of many NFL and CFL scouts and consistently gets 12 – 15 NFL Teams in attendance.

Finalists for the award will be released in one week and the Cliff Harris Award winner is to be announced on Dec. 24 and honored at the Little Rock Touchdown Club’s annual awards banquet on January 10, 2018.

The winner will receive the $3,000 Cliff Harris Award trophy presented by Cliff Harris and guest speaker Barry Sanders.
