BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – An alert neighbor’s quick actions aided Titusville Police in the arrest of four juveniles, ages 15 to 17, suspected of stealing packages from a neighbor’s front porch.
According to Amy Matthews of the Titusville Police Department, officers responded to a report of a residential burglary at approximately 3:30 p.m. last Tuesday on the 1500 block of Meadow Lark Drive.
“The preliminary investigation has revealed that a neighbor of one of the victims observed a group of suspects taking packages off their front porch,” said Matthews.
“The neighbor immediately informed the police. Officers located a juvenile male walking in the neighborhood matching the witness’s description. This suspect was taken into custody at that time.”
Detectives obtained critical information and surveillance footage, which led to the arrest of a total of four juveniles suspected of multiple citywide burglaries from front porches.
Among the charges that the suspects were arrested on included Burglary of an Unoccupied Dwelling, Dealing in Stolen Property and Theft and Tampering/Destroying Evidence.
According to Matthews, Detectives returned the recovered stolen packages, which contained holiday gifts, to the victims.
“This is yet another example of one of our citizens helping us apprehend a criminal by seeing something and then saying something,” said Titusville Police Deputy Chief Todd Hutchinson.
