(FOX NEWS) – The illegal immigrant fugitive wanted in the murder of a California police officer is in custody Friday after being on the run for more than two days, Fox News confirms.

Police arrested the man near Bakersfield, about 280 miles southeast of Newman, where Police Cpl. Ronil Singh was gunned down early Wednesday. The arrest was confirmed by the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office and Kern County Sheriff’s Office.

The news comes as the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department — which has been handling the case — says it will be holding a press conference at 3 p.m. ET Friday to discuss “significant developments in the Newman investigation.”

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office told Fox News it will hold its own press conference an hour later.
