BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Melbourne Police arrested 30-year-old man Thursday morning after he reportedly punched a woman driver and ran away from police near the 900 block of Wickham Rd.

The man has been identified as Steven S. Jackson.

Police say they received a call that a man was punching a female driver in her car Thursday morning around 8:11 a.m. on the 900 block of Wickham Rd.

When police arrived, Jackson fled the scene and ran through a number of private properties and residential neighborhoods to avoid officers.

After the foot chase ended, officers arrested Jackson at 524 Westminster Ave. where he also burglarized an item on private property.

Jackson has been charged with Battery Domestic Violence, Resist Officer Without Violence, Robbery (Sudden Snatching), Burglary (Unoccupied Structure), Breaking/Damaging Fences and Violation of Domestic Injunction/Contact.

“This apprehension and arrest was largely due to the cooperation of our residents,” said Melbourne Police Commander Marc Claycomb.

“Numerous residents over several blocks, were alert and aware – and gave us very clear descriptions, locations, direction of travel and all in real time.”

“We want to thank all that assisted us in this call today. It is only with the cooperation and assistance of the general public that we can do our best work. Thank you!”
