BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA (WESH) – A Brevard County father of two has pleaded no contest to a DUI manslaughter charge in the death of another father.

Stricken families from both sides faced each other in court Friday as one side asked mercy and the other for punishment.

Justin Looman, 32, could face at least 16 years behind bars, but apologized inside the courtroom and asked for a lighter sentence.

“I regret it every day. It’s my actions that caused all this,” Looman said.

Looman admitted to causing a crash in March 2016 that killed Gary Smith, the father of a boy lovingly called “little Gary.”
