UPDATE: Melbourne Police Identify 27-Year-Old Bicyclist Killed in Crash on US 1 Tuesday Afternoon

Melbourne Police responded to a deadly crash on US-1 and Eau Gallie Blvd. on Tuesday around 1 p.m.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Jason Lenard Vandyne, 27, of the 1900 block of Adams Avenue in Melbourne was struck and killed while riding his bicycle on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Melbourne Police Department. 

The crash happened around 12:49 p.m. on U.S. 1 near Orange Street just south of Eau Gallie Boulevard in Melbourne.

According to Melbourne Police Sgt. Daniel Desormier, the car involved in the accident was driven by 74-year old William John Cooley of Royal Palm Drive in Melbourne.

When officers arrived, Vandyne was found to have sustained life-threatening injuries and transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne where he was pronounced dead.

The Melbourne Police Selective Traffic Enforcement Unit is currently investigating this crash as a Traffic Homicide Investigation and is asking witnesses or anyone with video pertaining to this crash to please contact the Melbourne Police Department at 321-608-6731.
