BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Melbourne police have charged William Brian Stillwell, 39, of Satellite Beach, with three counts attempted first-degree murder, use of a firearm during a felony, armed burglary and two counts of child abuse after the shooting of three people on New Year’s Day.

According to a police report, Stillwell crashed a backyard family party armed with a SIG Sauer P226 9mm pistol Tuesday afternoon around 3 p.m. in the 3000 block of Woodsmill Drive.

Stillwell’s third victim was an unidentified female who was shot in the knee. At the time the victim was shot, she was on the phone with the dispatchers, saying her father had been shot.

After establishing a perimeter, police took Stillwell into custody and found the 9mm pistol in the living room of the residence next to a couch.

Melbourne Police Lt. Shawn Eising said Stillwell peacefully surrendered after a brief standoff.

The police report said that two 5-year children were exposed and/or directly witnessed the shootings, resulting “in extreme fear which could clearly be heard during the call place by the third victim.”

Police said the children were twins, a boy and a girl, and escaped from the home uninjured and ran to a neighbor for help.

The twins were heard during the 9-1-1 call begging their father to stop shooting as he accused his wife of cheating on him: “No, daddy, no. I don’t want anyone to die.”

Stillwell, who is listed as a sales manager at Hippo Roofing LLC on Linkedin, is now in the Brevard County Jail on NO BOND status.
