BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA (Florida Tech) – Florida Tech Women’s softball (4-2) pushed its win streak to three straight as the team downed Lee (4-3) and West Florida (4-1).

Victoria Szrom and Shanysse Emerenciana both took it yard for the first time this season. Szrom homer against Lee tacked on the final three key insurance runs of the game while Shanysse gave Tech the win with the only run in the West Florida contest.

Game one versus Lee had ace Melanie Murphy (1-2) on the rubber as she put together a solid four innings of work before being replaced by Tina Velázquez Rolón (two saves) for the final three frames.

The game did not start out in favor of the Panthers as they allowed runs in both the first and second that put them behind 2-0.

However, that all changed in the third as the team capitalized on mistakes made by the Flame that allowed Tech runners to cross home plate. A bases-loaded walk of Vanessa Rubio put the Panthers on the board for the first time as Xiarysse Emerenciana touted across the bag. Cheyenne Nelson and Velázquez Rolón followed shortly as a wild pitch and passed ball gave the team the lead, 3-2.

Ally Carver helped provided the Crimson and Gray with its fourth run of the third inning as she distracted the opposition with a steal attempt that allowed Rubio to reach the plate.

The final three runs of the contest came in the sixth as Szrom pelted one over the center field wall. This put the game comfortably in the Panthers grasp.

Game two had Murphy (2-2) return to the mound for the first six innings before Velázquez Rolón closed the game out and picked up her third save of the young season. Between the two appearances, Murphy gave up two runs (one earned) on seven hits and struck out three batters in 10.0 innings of work. While Velázquez Rolón tossed the other four frames and allowed no runs, one hit and sat down three.

Florida Tech and West Florida put on a masterful defensive display as neither team could manage to really find its footing at the plate all game as together only one run and five hits were surrendered. The solo run came in the bottom of the third when Shanysse Emerenciana powered it over the left field fence to make it 1-0.

The Panthers will look to continue rolling Saturday, Feb. 9, as they take on Molloy and California (PA) in Day Two of the NFCA DII Leadoff Classic. These games are set to start at 10 a.m. and noon ET.
