BREVARD COUNTY • CAPE CANAVERAL, FLORIDA – The City of Cape Canaveral will host its annual Founders Day Spring Festival on Saturday, April 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Manatee Sanctuary Park, located at 701 Thurm Boulevard in Cape Canaveral.

Founders’ Day has always been a celebration with a little something for everyone to enjoy from live music and beer to bounce houses and vendors — but this year the City of Cape Canaveral is kicking it up a notch with a community chowder cook-off to help raise funds to build a new playground at Cape View Elementary School.

Cook-off entries will be limited to the first 15 registered participants and the competition is open to all residents, businesses, non-profit organizations, churches, restaurants, homeowner/condo associations, and municipal services with a Cape Canaveral or Cocoa Beach address.

In addition to making an out of this world chowder, participants are encouraged to dress-up and festoon their booth with space/moon landing themed decor.

Prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third overall as well as top condo/HOA and “Most Spaced Out Booth.” Awards will be determined by People’s Choice and judges of all ages are invited to participate for just $5 per person.

One hundred percent of the money raised will go towards the Cape View Elementary playground fund. The deadline to register for the chowder cook-off is Monday, April 1st.

General admission to Founders’ Day is free and this year’s event will feature live music by Steel Kick’n, numerous local history exhibitors, and a Community Showcase of local businesses and non-profit organizations.

Families with children are sure to love the free bounce houses, inflatable obstacle courses, and craft table hosted by the Home Depot Kids Workshop.

Kids of all ages can get hands-on with big trucks, heavy equipment and emergency vehicles in the Touch-A-Truck exhibit!
