BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Space Coast was rocked Wednesday morning with quarter-sized hail, high winds and heavy rain.

TheNational Weather Service in Melbourne has issued a High Surf Advisory, which is in effect from 8 AM Wednesday morning to 8 PM EDT Thursday.

A High Rip Current Risk has also been issued. This High Rip Current Risk is in effect from 8 AM EDT Wednesday morning through Wednesday evening.

WAVES AND SURF: Seas will rapidly build today, producing large breaking waves of 7 to 9 feet in the surf zone today through Thursday. In addition to the dangerous surf, numerous strong and dangerous rip currents will also be present along with minor to locally moderate beach erosion occurring around high tide.

TIMING: Water runup to the dune line along with beach erosion is likely around the high tide cycle centered around 1:30 to 2:00 PM this afternoon, and around 2:30 to 3:00 in the morning and again in the afternoon on Thursday. The threat for rip currents will be present all day, but be especially high during the
outgoing tide early this morning and again late this afternoon.

IMPACTS: Large swells could easily knock you down and make you more susceptible to becoming caught in the strong seaward pull of a rip current. Venturing into the surf is not recommended today.
