The suspect has been identified as 47-year-old Xerxes Harvis.

According to the investigation by Melbourne Police, officers responded to a call at Melbourne Regional Hospital about a man who was receiving medical treatment after he was attacked with a machete.

When police arrived, they found the victim, Dennis Cleary, had suffered severe cuts to the left side of his face, lower back and a broken left arm.

The victim told police officers he and Harvis got into argument Monday night at his house after he told Harvis he couldn’t sleep at his house anymore.

When Harvis wouldn’t leave, the two men got into a fight where Harvis pulled out a machete and began attacking Cleary.

Harvis then left the house and dumped the machete in a neighbors yard, according to police.
