Eastern Florida’s Beck Fox, Thomas Matthews are Semifinalists for National Player of Year in Golf

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Two members of the Eastern Florida State College men’s golf team are semifinalists for the NJCAA Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award presented by Barbasol.
Sophomore Beck Fox and freshman Thomas Matthews were among the 30 players from NJCAA golf recognized.
Fox has finished in the top eight in all five of the Titans events this spring, picking up his first collegiate win at the District IV Championship in Illinois.
Matthews is coming off a second-place finish at the District IV tournament and has been in the top eight in four of the five spring events.
The finalists will be announced by Jack Nicklaus on Monday afternoon with the Nicklaus Award recipients announced on May 30 during the final round of the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide at Muirfield Village Golf Club.
In addition to receiving the Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award, the five recipients will compete in the Barbasol Shootout for an exemption into the PGA TOUR’s Barbasol Championship, held July 18-21, at the Champions at Keene Trace in Lexington, Ky.
The Barbasol Shootout will be held Saturday, June 1 at The Ohio State University Golf Club’s Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio – the same club where Jack Nicklaus played collegiate golf for the Buckeyes.
The Titans will host the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament beginning Tuesday at Duran Golf Club.
