BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA (Space Coast Sports Hall of Fame) – Soda lovers know Coca Cola. Fly fishing aficionados are well-acquainted with Renzetti, Inc.
This “Coca Cola of fly fishing” is respected worldwide for the quality vises and other fly-tying and rod-building equipment the company manufactures at its Titusville headquarters.
“Renzetti is recognized all over the world because of our design,” said vice-president Lily Renzetti.
Lily’s husband, Andy, launched the firm from a one-car garage in Romansville, Pennsylvania, during the 1970s after being frustrated by the fly tying hand tools available at the time.
The company relocated to Titusville in 1996 to escape the long Pennsylvania winters.
From the beginning, the Renzettis have raised awareness of the many benefits of fly fishing, a wonderful blend of art, sport and zen.

“It’s a hugely growing sport, with more women and more young people getting into it every day,” said Lily. “Our goal is to teach, grow and inspire anglers.”
At the national level, Renzetti sponsors Legacy Ambassadors such as fly fishing legend Bob Popovics, whose innovative fly tying concepts helped pave the way for modern-day saltwater fly fishing.
At the regional level, Renzetti Ambassadors such as Central Florida’s Chris Kincaid, also promote the sport throughout the year.
Once considered an activity best suited to the streams and rivers of the western mountains, fly fishing has matured into a sport that is equally satisfying in both fresh and salt water.
“Since the 1990s, saltwater fly fishing has been growing consistently,” said Renzetti.
“You can go for anything from marlin to bass and trout.”
Tailor-made for fly fishing, the Space Coast offers a myriad of opportunities for local fly fishermen.
“We have the Mosquito Lagoon, the Indian River, the St. Johns River and the surf,” said Lilly.
The popularity of fly fishing in Brevard reflects the sports’ growing maturity, helped significantly by the Renzettis.
Take Dr. Marcia Ely, for example. The Titusville veterinarian, who is featured in the soon-to-publish book “Fifty Women Who Fish,” took up fly fishing at the suggestion of Lily Renzetti.
Almost every day after work, Ely will cross the bridge to Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge to try her luck casting.
The Renzettis have also furthered the sport through their facilitation of programs such as Casting for Recovery, which immerses breast cancer patients in the relaxation of fly fishing, and Project Healing Waters, aimed at veterans suffering from PTSD.
“We do whatever they need to help out,” said Lily.
As one of the biggest cheerleaders for fly fishing, the Renzettis have probably helped keep many individuals from the therapist’s office.
“Fly fishing is such a relaxing way to decompress,” said Lily. “You forget everything else.”
