BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – WILD Florida Rescue commended the efforts of Cocoa police officer Eric Cronin and Trey Hancock of FedEx in rescuing an injured crane and its brood.
The pair had to capture an adult with its young after being struck by a car and most likely lost the other parent the same way.
Due to the ever-increasing population and urbanization in the state of Florida, conflicts between people and wildlife are both inevitable and commonplace.
Those conflicts, often resulting in life or death situations for the affected wildlife, require a rapid response by trained wildlife professionals.
After recognizing the constant and increasing need for wildlife transportation and rescue, Heather Pepe Dillon and Matthew Buice co-Founded WILD Florida Rescue.

“WILD Florida Rescue takes away injured cranes from their families all too often, it is gut-wrenching no matter how many times they do it,” said a WILD Florida Rescue spokesperson on Facebook.
“WILD Florida Rescue wants to commend the commitment that Trey Hancock of FedEx and Officer Cronin of Cocoa Police Department put into seeing that these cranes were rescued and kept together.
“And also thanks to Susan Fejarang also of FedEx who assisted in any way needed. Both birds were taken to care safely together. We are grateful for the care, persistence and assistance.”
