BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Melbourne police responded to the scene of a barricaded armed suspect Sunday night in the area of Southland and Masterson in N. Melbourne.

The situation ended peacefully when the Quentin Eugene Hatcher, 40, surrendered to authorities shortly before 10 p.m.

According to Melbourne Police Department PIO Mark Claycomb, police first arrived on the scene at around 6 p.m. Sunday.

The Crisis Negotiation Unit stayed in contact with the suspect until a peaceful resolution was reached.

According to Claycomb, Hatcher was involved in a disturbance with an ex-girlfriend and some of her family members.

“During that argument, several witnesses observed that he had a handgun,” Claycomb.

“Although he did not use the gun specifically to threaten anyone – it was observed by several witnesses… that, in addition to his demeanor put them in fear.”

Claycomb said when officers arrived to address the disturbance, Hatcher barricaded himself, alone, in the residence.

“Multiple resources were brought to the scene and contact was made by the Melbourne Police Department’s Crisis Negotiations Unit,” said Claycomb.

“They did make contact with Hatcher on multiple calls and were ultimately able to get him to come out on his own and turn himself over to officers on the scene.”

The case is currently under investigation and anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Tunink at 321-608-6731.
