BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office has identified 27-year-old Shawn Robbins of Cocoa as the victim of the fatal shooting at the Merritt Island Walmart on Sunday night.

According to Tod Goodyear of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, 27-year-old Rashad Gibson of Cocoa has been identified as the person who shot Robbins.

“The investigation began shortly after 8:30 p.m. Sunday evening after the Sheriff’s Office received several reports of a shooting at the Walmart where at least one person was injured,” said Goodyear.

“Deputies arrived on scene finding a deceased male. Gibson remained at the scene and has been cooperating with the investigation.”

Currently, no charges have been filed against Gibson.

“The investigation has determined that the incident appears to be a relationship dispute concerning an unidentified third party, where Robbins traveled to the Walmart, where Gibson is employed, to confront him,” said Goodyear.

Goodyear said that Robbins was taken to the Brevard County Medical Examiner’s Office where an autopsy will be conducted.

The investigation is ongoing at this time and no arrest has been made.

“The results of the investigation will be forwarded to the State Attorney’s Office for a decision as to whether charges will be filed in this case.”

Walmart, which was closed during the initial investigation is now reopened.
