BREVARD COUNTY • PORT CANAVERAL, FLORIDA – Crews offload a United Launch Alliance Dual Engine Centaur second stage for The Boeing Company’s first crewed Starliner mission at the Army Transportation Wharf on the Port’s north side.

The Centaur and an Atlas V booster shown here still aboard the cargo ship Delta Mariner are scheduled to carry three astronauts to the International Space Station, possibly in November.

The Centaur is a family of rocket stages. They are designed to be the upper stage of space launch vehicles and are used on the Atlas V.

Centaur was the world’s first high-energy upper stage, burning liquid hydrogen (LH2) and liquid oxygen (LOX).

Centaur has enabled the launch of some of NASA’s most important scientific missions during its 50-year history.
