Audience invited to wear red, white and blue to patriotic 'picnic concerts'

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Melbourne Community Orchestra will take a musical journey around the nation when MCO Tours the USA with a pair of “picnic concerts” at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, June 12 and 13, at the Melbourne Auditorium.
Concert-goers may bring coolers and boxed dinners from home to enjoy, while the orchestra nourishes the patriotic spirit onstage with rousing numbers that celebrate what it means to be American.
From the stirring “America the Beautiful” to John Denver’s “Take Me Home Country Roads,” the orchestra will present a host of American standards to honor those who serve and protect our country.
Included is the popular Armed Forces Salute, during which service veterans in attendance will be asked to stand and be recognized when the official song from their service branch is played.
Per audience request, Maestro Mark Nelson will sing “God Bless the USA,” in a red, white and blue concert that will feature several standout musicians.
Performing solos or featured music are Angelica Ramirez on cello, David Borst on bassoon, Laura Earle on English Horn and David Ewing on trumpet.
The audience is invited to display their pride in America by wearing the nation’s colors. Admission is free and doors open at 5:30 p.m. for best seating.

Long tables will be provided so that patrons may “picnic” during the concert. MCO Tours the USA will be the last concert of the season for the Melbourne Community Orchestra before their summer recess.
Conductor Mark Nelson has a special affection for American music and the feelings it inevitably stirs.
“This annual celebration of our great nation is always a meaningful and rousing concert for the musicians and our audience,” said Nelson.
“A special highlight is our annual ‘Armed Forces Salute,’ where we recognize those present for their amazing service and contributions to our nation. And I know ‘America the Beautiful’ will have every audience member on their feet, grateful to live in the best country in the world.”
