ID UPDATE: Motorcyclist Killed On I-95 After Being Struck By Lightning In Volusia County

A man driving a motorcycle on I-95 has died after state troopers say he was struck by lightning and crashed his motorcycle near mile marker 271 in Volusia County on Sunday.

**UPDATE** Florida Highway Patrol has released the identity of the man killed on I-95 Sunday as 45-year-old Benjamin Austin Lee from Charlotte, North Carolina.

VOLUSIA COUNTY, FLORIDA – A man driving a motorcycle on I-95 has died after state troopers say he was struck by lightning and crashed his motorcycle near mile marker 271 in Volusia County on Sunday.

Troopers say the man’s helmet shattered as a result of the lightning strike.

Though the man has not been identified, he is a Charlotte, NC resident according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 3 p.m.

The investigation shows an off-duty Virginia State trooper witnessed the lightning strike.
