One Person Shot In Melbourne After Dispute Over Bill, One Person Arrested

Melbourne Police are investigating a shooting that happened on 150 E. University Blvd. following a dispute over a bill on Sunday.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Melbourne Police are investigating a shooting that happened on 150 E. University Blvd. following a dispute over a bill on Sunday.

Police say the victim suffered non-life threatening injuries after being shot in the buttocks.

The shooting suspect has been arrested and identified as David Rodriguez.

According to the investigation, police say the victim was giving a ride to Rodriguez, who had been at a restaurant.

A dispute then broke out between the victim’s passenger about the bill.

After the victim dropped off his passenger at an apartment complex, Rodriguez approached the victim armed with a gun in the parking lot.

“Upon arriving at the apartments, the victim advised he was confronted in the parking lot by Rodriguez, who was armed with a handgun,” said the Melbourne Police Department.

“The victim then attempted to flee to a nearby friend’s residence, at which time Rodriguez fired a shot in his direction.”

Once the gunshot was fired, the victim began throwing folding chairs at Rodriguez to fend off the gunshots.

Rodriguez was located at his apartment and arrested without incident. The victim was transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Rodriguez has been charged with aggravated battery with a firearm.
