BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Melbourne police have charged three people they say were involved in an alleged operation that involved shoplifting items from Home Depot stores in Brevard and Indian River and selling them at local pawn shops.

According to a release from the Melbourne Police Department, 56-year-old David William Staring, his son 29-year-old Warren Steven Staring and an associate, 61-year-old Debra Lyn Witherspoon, have all been charged with grand theft, organized fraud to obtain property of less than $20,000, false verification of ownership and conspiracy to commit felony retail theft.

Police say the trio allegedly shoplifted high-priced items from the stores including air conditioners, welding packs and other items.

They then allege that the suspects would immediately go to pawn shops and sell them to the stores to pay for living expenses and illegal drugs.

The suspects were taken into custody on June 7, police added.
