Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Issues Traffic Advisory For Merritt Island July 4th Parade

This year the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office and Veterans Memorial Center are partnering together to host the “Merritt Island Independence Day Parade” that will start at Edgewood Jr./Sr. High School and travel to the Veterans Memorial Center.

BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – The Merritt Island July 4th Parade will be held tomorrow beginning promptly at 10 a.m.

The parade begins at Edgewood Jr/Sr High School exiting the school’s rear parking lot entrance/exit turning south onto Warner Way.

The parade will then turn east on to East Merritt Avenue and will continue until reaching Sykes Creek Parkway.

The parade will then travel south on Sykes Creek Parkway crossing over State Road 520 until reaching its conclusion at the Veterans Memorial Center. State Road 520 will only be closed for the time it takes the parade to cross while traveling south to the Veterans Memorial Center.

The parade is expected to last approximately one hour. The parade route will be closely monitored and controlled by Brevard County Sheriff’s Office personnel.

Motorists are encouraged to utilize SR 528 as an alternate route during the parade times. North Sykes Creek Parkway will be closed from East Merritt Avenue south to the Veterans Memorial Center for the duration of the parade.

Travelers needing to access SR 520 are encouraged to utilize North Banana River Drive to avoid delays.

All intersections along the travel route will be intermittently blocked during the parade in order to maintain the safety of the participants and spectators.

*The Intersection at SR 520 and Sykes Creek Parkway, will be blocked in five-minute intervals to minimize traffic delays.
