SOUTH AFRICA – Space Coast Sports Hall of Famer Kelly Slater will look to advance to the quarterfinals of the Corona Open J-Bay on Wednesday in South Africa.

Slater, 47, was inducted into the Space Coast Sports Hall of Fame in 2012 for profound success on the surf board, which he first learned to do in Cocoa Beach.

Slater has won 11 World Surfing Championships. Last year, revealed that this season would be his last season on tour.

The Cocoa Beach native will face off against Italo Ferreira (Brazil) in heat 8 in the Round of 16.

Slater graduated from Cocoa Beach Jr/Sr. High School in 1991.
