BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Titusville Police Detectives have upgraded the charges for a 17-year-old male to Second-Degree Murder after his grandfather died from internal injuries caused by his grandson.

Titusville police have identified the man who died Tuesday night at the hospital has been identified as 69-year-old William Womack from Titusville.

Officers responded to the scene around 5:45 p.m. Monday (Aug. 5) on the 2000 block of Hazelwood Court about a report of a disturbance.

When police arrived, they found William Womack unresponsive in the driveway of the home.

Womack was quickly given CPR by an arriving officer and was transported to a local hospital in grave condition, according to police.

The investigation later revealed that Womack was involved in a verbal confrontation with his 17-year-old grandson. That argument lead to the grandson violently battering his grandpa, resulting in significant internal injuries.

The grandson was initially charged with Aggravated Battery and was taken to the State Juvenile Detention facility Monday night.

Police say the victim passed away at the hospital late Tuesday night, which resulted in detectives upgrading the charge from aggravated battery to Second-Degree Murder.

Police officials said they expect the State Attorney’s Office to additionally charge the juvenile as an adult based on the violence involved in this incident.
