BREVARD COUNTY WEATHER FORECAST

Tropical Storm Dorian could be near hurricane strength when it passes through the northern Windward Islands early Tuesday, and it is expected to be a hurricane when it moves near Puerto Rico and eastern Hispaniola. (NHC image)

NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER – Tropical Storm Dorian could be near hurricane strength when it passes through the northern Windward Islands early Tuesday, and it is expected to be a hurricane when it moves near Puerto Rico and eastern Hispaniola.

A Hurricane Watch continues for St. Lucia and a Tropical Storm Warning continues for Barbados, Martinique, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

A Tropical Storm Watch continues for Dominica, Grenada and its dependencies, Saba and St. Eustatius, and Puerto Rico.

Tropical Storm Dorian is centered as of 8 p.m. AST/EDT Monday about 30 miles east-southeast of Barbados and about 140 miles east-southeast of St. Lucia moving toward the west-northwest near 14 mph and this motion is expected to continue through Tuesday night, followed by a turn toward the northwest on Wednesday.

On the forecast track, the center of Dorian is expected to move near or over the Windward Islands this evening and tonight and move into the eastern Caribbean Sea on Tuesday.

Dorian is forecast to pass near or south of Puerto Rico on Wednesday and approach eastern Hispaniola Wednesday night.

Maximum sustained winds are near 60 mph with higher gusts. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles from the center.

Dorian is expected to produce total rain accumulations of 3 to 8 inches in the Windward Islands from Martinique south to St. Vincent, including Barbados.

Isolated maximum totals of 10 inches are possible across the northern Windward Islands. Rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches are expected from the Grenadines, south to Grenada and across Dominica.

Rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches with maximum totals of 6 inches are possible across Puerto Rico and St. Croix.

BREVARD COUNTY WEATHER FORECAST

On the Space Coast Tuesday, the National Weather Service forecasts a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon, partly sunny, with a high near 91 and a heat index value as high as 101.

Calm winds will become northeast around 5 mph in the afternoon with new rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

On Tuesday night, there will be a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11 pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 75. East wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Wednesday: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 91. Heat index values as high as 103. Calm wind becoming west around 5 mph in the morning.

Wednesday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 75. East southeast wind around 5 mph becoming south southwest after midnight.
