Viera Suntree Juniors Defeat Central Region 7-1, Moves Closer to World Series Title Game

Cole Smith blasts 3-run homer over right-field fence

TAYLOR, MICHIGAN – The Southeast Region, represented by the Viera Suntree Little league Juniors, on Monday defeated the Central Region team from Iowa 7-1 during the Junior League Baseball World Series in Taylor, Michigan.

The boys from Viera Suntree were paced by Cole Smith, who blasted a 3-run homer over the right-field fence.

The pride of Brevard will now play the winner of the West (Southern California) vs. Southwest (Oklahoma) on Wednesday at 8 p.m., which can be seen on ESPN+.

VIERA SUNTREE VS. IOWA GAME RECAP:

The Central team from Iowa watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in the loss to Southeast.

Southeast scored on a single by Lucas Glendinning in the first inning and a home run by Cole Smith in the second inning.

The Central struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Southeast, giving up seven runs.

Southeast opened up scoring in the first inning, when Glendinning singled on a 3-1 count, scoring two runs.

Southeast scored three runs in the second inning. Southeast scored its runs on a home run by Smith.

Apollos Horrell earned the victory on the hill for Southeast. He allowed two hits and one run over one and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking zero.

Dylan Jordan and Cameron Simpkins entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

Carter Woollums took the loss for Central. He allowed eight hits and five runs over four innings, striking out one and walking zero.

Carter Bryan led Central with two hits in four at bats.

Southeast collected 11 hits on the day. Smith and Glendinning each collected multiple hits for SoutheastSmith went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead Southeast in hits.
