BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Tech men’s basketball coach has announced his final signing for the 2019 class in Bulgaria native Andy Francis.
Coming in at just over 6-feet-4 inches tall and 200 pounds, Francis is a guard-forward combo from Silistra, Bulgaria.
He recently graduated from the 119th Secondary School Academician Mihail Arnaudov in Sofia, Bulgaria and was a member of the Bulgarian U18 National Team in 2017 but played just one game after sustaining an injury.
“I chose Florida Tech, because of the good basketball program and high standard of educations,” said Francis.
“I am most excited to join the team. I think I can bring scoring and toughness on the court, and I hope that I can help the team make a deep run in the SSC and NCAA tournaments this season.”
Francis played for one of the top clubs in his home country, BC CSKA, the past number of years. During his time with CSKA, Francis helped his teams win a Gold, two Silver and four Bronze medals at the Bulgarian National Championships.
He averaged 14.8 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.8 assists and two steals per game last year with the CSKA, while shooting 66.7% from the field and 35 percent beyond the arc.
“Andy brings us another strong, athletic, and talented young player who can play several positions on court,” Mims stated. “He handles the ball like a point guard, shoots it like a scoring guard, attacks the basket like a small forward, and rebounds like a power forward. His versatility and athleticism will be an asset to us in many ways.
“He reminds me a lot of a young Derek Murphy. I’m looking forward to getting Andy on campus and watching him play with our team.”
