BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – A 30-year-old man has been charged after police say he intentionally set fire to an apartment building on the 1000 block of Counts Street, located just west of Fiske Boulevard in Cocoa on Thursday morning.

Randy Jones faces three counts of arson to an occupied structure, according to the Cocoa Police Department.

The charges are each first-degree felonies punishable by a maximum of life in prison.

All occupants at the three-unit apartment building made it out without injury but they have been displaced due to the fire, which destroyed the building.

Police say that a Brevard County Sheriff’s Office deputy was near the site of the fire at 8:49 a.m. and observed a person standing outside the structure that was later identified as the suspect.

Jones is currently being held at the Brevard County Detention Center without bond, police added.

He will make a first appearance before a judge on Friday.
