NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER – The National Hurricane Center said Sunday evening that Tropical Storm Dorian could possibly reach hurricane strength over the eastern Caribbean by Tuesday.

The National Hurricane Center’s report issued 8 p.m. EDT Sunday had Dorian’s center located about 335 miles east-southeast of Barbados and moving west at 14 mph.

Maximum sustained winds are about 50 mph and tropical storm-force winds extend outward up to 35 miles from the center of the storm.

NHC forecasters said Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Haiti and the Virgin Islands should monitor Dorian’s progress.

The center of Dorian is expected to be near the Windward Islands late Monday or early Tuesday and move into the eastern Caribbean Sea on Tuesday.
