Quest Elementary’s Virginia Hamilton to Be Honored With National Association for Gifted Children Award

Hamilton’s Canine Commandos challenges the intellectual curiosity of gifted students
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) announced Virginia Hamilton, a Gifted Student Program Teacher at Quest Elementary School in Viera, will receive the 2019 NAGC Community Service Award.
This honor is presented to an individual or organization that has made contributions that benefit gifted young people in the community, state or nation.
Hamilton’s Canine Commandos challenges the intellectual curiosity of gifted students and enhances their empathy by working with shelter animals.
It helps students make sense of the world through critical examination, abstract reasoning, and insightful problem solving while nurturing their emotional intensity and development to help them understand and appreciate their unique sensitivities, emotions, and passions.
“The awards program shines a light on those who are making a difference in supporting gifted children as they reach to achieve their personal best, and Virginia Hamilton has made a unique and important contribution to the gifted education community,” said Sally Krisel, NAGC Board President.
Hamilton will be recognized at the NAGC 66th Annual Convention in Albuquerque, New Mexico in November.
