SPACE COAST DAILY TV TROPICAL WEATHER UPDATE: Space Coast Daily’s Chris Bonanno discusses the latest on Tropical Storm Dorian and talks about Brevard’s weather for Wednesday. The current cone of probable path shows Dorian hitting Florida in Volusia County area as a tropical storm at about 8 p.m Sunday morning.

NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER – The current National Hurricane Center update has Dorian currently tracking as a tropical storm but is predicted to strengthen to hurricane Category 1 force winds and hit somewhere along the east coast of Florida.

The current cone of probable path shows Dorian hitting Florida in the Volusia County coast area as a Category 1 hurricane at about 8 p.m. Sunday morning.

The National Weather Service is predicting on Sunday that winds could gust as high as 65 mph in Brevard County, and the chance of precipitation is 70 percent.

The center of Dorian on Tuesday night is located near latitude 16.0 North, longitude 63.0 West. Dorian is moving west-northwest at 13 mph and is expected to continue that movement until taking a turn toward the northwest Wednesday.

Maximum sustained winds are 50 mph, with higher gusts. Slow strengthening is forecast during the next 24 hours, and Dorian is forecast to be near hurricane strength when it moves close to Puerto Rico.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles from the center. Slow strengthening is forecast during the next 24 hours, and Dorian is forecast to be near hurricane strength when it approaches Puerto Rico on Wednesday.

Some weakening is expected after Dorian moves across the higher terrain of Puerto Rico Wednesday night. Dorian is expected to gradually re-strengthen on Thursday and Friday while passing near or to the east of the Turks and Caicos and southeastern Bahamas.

A Hurricane Watch is in effect for Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic from Isla Saona to Samana.

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Martinique, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic from Isla Saona to Samana.

A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Dominic, Saba and St. Eustatius, and for the Dominican Republic from Isla Saona to Punta Palenque and from Samana to Puerto Plata. Interests in the Virgin Islands should monitor the progress of Dorian.

BREVARD COUNTY WEATHER FORECAST

On the Space Coast Tuesday, the National Weather Service forecasts a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon, partly sunny, with a high near 91 and a heat index value as high as 101.

Calm winds will become northeast around 5 mph in the afternoon with new rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

On Tuesday night, there will be a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11 pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 75. East wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.
