BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA – The Viera Suntree Little League Majors won the state championship in July and the team is now in Warner Robins, Georgia to take on Alabama in its first regional game Friday at 4 p.m.

The VSLL State Champion Majors blanked Plant City 10-0 to take the state championship in July.

The state champions are managed by Russell Cheatham and players include  Izzy Birru, Robbie Caruso, Micah Cheatham, Brennan Confreda, Finn Goldinger, Dominic Leoni, Evan Lipski, Austin Marshall, Colton Marshall, Deaglan McBride, Mikey Minarik, Jonah Peacock and Brandon Reiter.

The Southeast Region is one of eight United States regions that currently send teams to the Little League World Series, the largest youth baseball competition in the world.

The state champion Viera Suntree Majors are managed by Russell Cheatham and players include  Izzy Birru, Robbie Caruso, Micah Cheatham, Brennan Confreda, Finn Goldinger, Dominic Leoni, Evan Lipski, Austin Marshall, Colton Marshall, Deaglan McBride, Mikey Minarik, Jonah Peacock and Brandon Reiter.

The Southeast Region is made up of eight states including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.

The Southeast Region’s participation in the Little League World Series dates back to 1957 when it was known as the South Region.

When the Little League World Series was expanded in 2001 from eight teams – four U.S. teams and four “International” teams from the rest of the world – to 16 teams (eight U.S. and eight International), the Southern Region was split into the Southeast and Southwest Regions.

Brevard County teams that have won the Southeast Region title include Cocoa in 2004, Rockledge in 2009 and Viera/Suntree in 2010.
