BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – I am very proud to announce that last Friday, September 13, BCSO Judicial Services Chief Mike DeMorat of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

The FBI National Academy is one of our nation’s premier law enforcement leadership training opportunities that less than 1 percent of Law Enforcement Officers in the United States get invited to attend.

The 277th Session of the National Academy consisted of 256 men and women from 50 states and the District of Columbia. The class included members of law enforcement agencies from 34 countries, five military organizations and nine federal civilian organizations.

Recognized internationally for its academic excellence, the National Academy offers 10 weeks of advanced communication, leadership and fitness training.

The training provides participants expertise, allowing development and knowledge that can be shared within our communities and cooperation worldwide.

Participants are held to extremely high standards in order to attend including being exemplary leaders with an impeccable background.

While FBI Director Christopher Asher Wray delivered the keynote remarks at the ceremony FBI Academy instructors, special agents and other staff with advanced degrees provide the training.

Since 1972, National Academy students have been able to earn undergraduate and graduate credits from the University of Virginia, which accredits many of the courses offered.

A total of 52,282 graduates have completed the FBI National Academy since it began in 1935. The National Academy is held at the FBI Training Academy in Quantico, the same facility where the FBI trains its new special agents and intelligence analysts.

Chief DeMorat is a 28-year law enforcement veteran and currently serves as the Chief of Judicial Services, which includes the County Jail Complex and Court Services Unit.

He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of South Florida and has previously served our community as a Patrol Deputy, Field Training Officer, Agent, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Major and Commander.

In addition to being a graduate of the FBI National Academy, he is a graduate of the Southern Police Institute (University of Louisville) Command Officers Development Course and the FBI-LEEDA 21st Command Institute for Law Enforcement Executives.

Our agency is proud to have numerous other members of our agency who have attended the FBI National Academy to include:

• Director Joe Hellebrand, 197th
• Chief Deputy Doug Waller, 204th
• Chief Alan Moros, 234th
• Sheriff Wayne Ivey, 237th
• Commander John Mellick, 259th

Please join me in congratulating Chief DeMorat on this special accomplishment and in thanking the FBI National Academy for facilitating this one of a kind free training opportunity.
