ENTERTAINMENT SPOTLIGHT: Seven new shows at the King Center for the Performing Arts in Melbourne, Florida will go on sale Friday at 12 noon.

This summer, the King Center has been undergoing renovations on its heating, ventilation and air conditioning system.

The King Center is executing a $1.7 million renovation project, which will replace the portion of the HVAC system that serves the main stage and the auditorium – the two most important areas of the facility.

The building, which opened to the public in 1988, is also receiving a $1.9 million architectural and interior design upgrade. The time presents itself for the King Center to reflect the modern spirit and artistry of the exceptional performances that grace its stage.

The design renovation will enrich the facility both functionally and aesthetically, as well as increase revenue opportunities and enhance the overall guest experience.

A SOLO ACOUSTIC EVENING WITH RICHARD MARX
Friday, December 20, 8 p.m

Performer, songwriter and producer, Richard Marx has written fourteen number one songs, sold more than 30 million albums, and as a songwriter, earned a Grammy for song of the year. His nearly three-decade-long career has had plenty of highlights. His self-titled debut went to #8 and spawned four Top 5 singles, including the chart-topping “Hold on to the Nights.” The follow-up, Repeat Offender, was even more successful, hitting #1 and going quadruple-platinum with two #1 singles in “Satisfied” and “Right Here Waiting.” When both Rush Street and Paid Vacation went platinum, Marx achieved a seven-year string of triumphs that rivaled any in pop-rock music history. To this day, he is the only male artist in history to have his first seven singles reach the Top 5 on the Billboard charts. He remains active as a live performer with an ongoing solo acoustic tour that’s taken him around the world.

INDIGO GIRLS
Tuesday, January 21, 8 p.m.

Twenty years after they began releasing records as the Indigo Girls, Amy Ray and Emily Saliers have politely declined the opportunity to slow down with age. With a legacy of releases and countless U.S. and international tours behind them, the Indigo Girls have forged their own way in the music business. Selling over 14 million records, they are still going strong. Amy & Emily are the only duo with top 40 titles on the Billboard 200 in the ’80s, ’90s, ’00s and ’10s. In 2012, Saliers and her Indigo Girls partner, Amy Ray embarked on a bold new chapter, collaborating with a pair of orchestrators to prepare larger-than-life arrangements of their songs to perform with symphonies around the country. The duo found an elusive sonic sweet spot with the project, creating a seamless blend of folk, rock, pop, and classical that elevated their songs to new heights without scarifying any of the emotional intimacy and honesty that have defined their music for decades.

The power of unity, both in music and in life, has been an Indigo Girls calling card ever since they burst into the spotlight with their 1989 self-titled breakout album. Since then, the band has racked up a slew of Gold and Platinum records, taken home a coveted GRAMMY Award, and earned the respect of high-profile peers and collaborated from Michael Stipe to Joan Baez. Both on and off the stage, Emily Saliers and Amy Ray have secured their spot as one of the most legendary musical acts of this generation.

THE FAB FAUX
Friday, March 6, 8 p.m.

The Fab Faux – named by Rolling Stone as The World’s Greatest Beatles Tribute Band – is coming to the King Center for the first time! The Fab Faux treat the seminal music with unwavering respect and are known for their painstaking recreations of the songs (with emphasis on the later works never performed live by the Beatles).  Far beyond a cover band, they play the music of The Beatles so impeccably that one must experience it to believe it. Imagine hearing complex material like “Strawberry Fields Forever” or “I Am the Walrus” performed in complete part-perfect renditions; or such harmony-driven songs as “Because,” “Nowhere Man,” and “Paperback Writer,” reproduced not only note-for-note, but with extra vocalists to achieve a double-tracked effect. For the band’s loyal fans this will be a show you do not want to miss! The Fab Faux features Will Lee from The David Letterman Show, Jimmy Vivino from Conan O’Brien Show along with Rich Pagano, Frank Agnello, and Jack Petruzzelli.
