BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The purpose of the Melbourne Police Department’s School Bus Safety Action Plan is very simple – identify actions needed to reduce school-transportation related traffic violations that could potentially cause a crash resulting in serious injuries and fatalities.

This will be accomplished by focusing on identified areas where enforcement should be conducted towards all violators on the roadways throughout the City of Melbourne.

The School Bus Safety Action Plan will begin on Monday, September 30 through Friday, November 1.

Phase 1: Melbourne police traffic officers working this detail will be assigned school bus stops and traffic corridors and work as teams in these identified locations.

Traffic officers will be highly visible in their assigned locations and corridors to include all surrounding school zones.

Traffic officers will conduct traffic stops and issue citations and written warnings per department policy.

In addition to traffic enforcement, school bus stop activity as it relates to child safety shall be addressed.
