STARTING PAY: Firefighter/Paramedic – $38,458 (Includes $2000.00 Paramedic Incentive Pay) with $4,500 increase when Paramedic solo status achieved.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

This is a responsible and skilled position which requires the ability to perform specialized work as an individual and/or team member while operating specialized equipment during fire suppression, emergency medical services and other emergency activities. Required to participate in public education outreach programs within the community. Participates in mandatory physical training program and evaluation as prescribed by the department physician

EDUCATION: High School diploma or GED.

REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants must provide, at the time of application, copies of the following documentation:

• Valid Florida driver’s license – Class E

• Current valid State of Florida Minimum Fire Standards Certificate of Compliance

• Current valid State of Florida or National Registry: EMT or Paramedic certification

• EMTs: current valid AHA / CPR HealthCare Provider or its equivalent

• Paramedics: current valid AHA / CPR HealthCare Provider or its equivalent, and copy of AHA/ACLS certification

• Copy of approved 16-hour emergency vehicle operations course certification (EVOC/CEVO)

• Veteran’s preference, a copy of form DD214

• Signed affidavit stating non-user of tobacco products

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to meet and maintain the physical qualifications as defined by NFPA 1582.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Firefighter/EMT applicants are required to successfully obtain a State of Florida Paramedic or National Registry Certification within three years of employment. All candidates must successfully pass the Department specified physical performance test conducted as part of the review process; (any candidate may be prevented from participating in or completion of the test at the Chief Officer’s discretion) and, must also pass a medical evaluation conducted post job offer and subject to criminal background and driving record checks. All applicants must be a non-user of tobacco products at time of application and throughout their time of employment. This position is identified as part of Essential Services and as such is subject to recall or extended work hours for emergencies and natural disasters. All employees serve an essential role in the City’s disaster preparation and or disaster recovery efforts, as may be designated by the City’s Emergency Manager.
