BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – In late September, Deputy Chaney Rice responded to a local gas station in Mims regarding a person who was unconscious from an overdose

Upon arrival, Deputy Rice made contact with the individual who was unconscious in the passenger seat of a vehicle. Deputy Rice quickly assessed the situation and retrieved her AED and Narcan.

Deputy Rice determined that the individual was displaying signs of an overdose so she administered nasal Narcan and placed the person in a recovery position.

The individual began to regain consciousness, and subsequently explained that the overdose was unintentional.

Within minutes Brevard County Fire Rescue responded and transported the individual to an area hospital for further treatment.

Recently, while on duty Deputy Rice received an amazing bouquet of flowers from the person who’s life she had saved as he was extremely grateful for her fast thinking actions and compassion.

You hear me say all the time that “I am surrounded by an amazing team who do amazing things everyday to protect our citizens!!” Deputy Rice’s actions are a perfect example of just how true that statement is and I could not be more proud of her!!

Please join me in thanking Deputy Rice for a job well done and for her quick thinking actions that without question saved the life of one of our citizens!
