‘The Sooner You Find Something, the Better the Outcome’

Health First Cancer Institute’s Timi is proud to be a survivor – not to mention an advocate for women taking charge of their health.
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Timi is an advocate for being proactive about her health.
As an associate at the Health First Cancer Institute, every day she sees the impact the devastating disease can have on patients and their loved ones.
After having uterine cancer herself, she knows that early detection can literally be a lifesaver.
“I’m a firm believer in preventative everything,” Timi said. “That saved me when I had a diagnosis.”
After catching her uterine cancer early, Timi is proud to be a survivor – not to mention an advocate for women taking charge of their health.
Recently, she opted to have her annual mammogram during a “Girls’ Night Out” Mammo Party at the Health First Breast Center. It was a chance for her to get her yearly screening done in a social setting, with the camaraderie of other women.
It is recommended that women have annual mammograms starting at 40. If there is a family history of breast cancer, your physician can work with you individually to determine when screening is appropriate.
Studies have shown mammograms can detect breast cancer up to two years before symptoms appear.
Timi acknowledges that some people are afraid to be screened “because they don’t want to know.”
“It’s not whether you’re comfortable, it’s whether you’re healthy,” Timi insists. “The sooner you find something, the better the outcome.”
