Brevard Public Schools was well represented at the 62nd Annual Florida Council for Social Studies Conference last week. BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Diana Adams of Freedom 7 Elementary was honored with the Dr. Theron Trimble Elementary Social Studies Teacher of the Year award for the entire state of Florida during the 62nd Annual Florida Council for Social Studies Conference.

Brevard Public Schools was well represented by outstanding teachers during the Social Studies Conference held last week in Orlando.

Congratulations to Jeff Draves of Viera High, who was presented the Harry T. Moore Teaching for Civil Rights and Civil Liberties award, and the only winner selected for the entire state of Florida.

In addition, Adams of Freedom 7 Elementary, Marcy Rua of Johnson Middle School and Francine Drabik of Space Coast Jr/.Sr. High were honored as Brevard’s elementary, middle, and high school, respectively, social studies teachers of the year.

The Florida Council for the Social Studies, along with the National Council for the Social Studies, sponsors the annual conferences to promote public awareness of Social Studies education.

Teachers are selected by a committee of district resource teachers using a rubric based on the organization’s selection criteria.
