BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – In the month since Hurricane Dorian devastated the Abaco islands in the Bahamas much has happened, but unfortunately, a lot has stayed the same; schools remain closed and basic foodstuffs, cleaning products and water remain scarce.
Fortunately, smaller aircraft are now able to access the hardest-hit areas and organizations such as Wings of Grace Ministries, the Melbourne based teen inspiration program, are flying in as many supplies as possible.
Florida Prep is currently working with Wings of Grace Ministries to assist with the transportation of students from the Bahamas to the school, but given the process is long and complex students decided to set themselves a challenge to ‘Fill a Plane for Abaco’.
In less than one week students, faculty and parents were not only able to fill one plane, they filled two.
Speaking on their achievement Florida Prep spokesperson Jeanette Middleton said, “Abaco is very close to our hearts. Many of our past and present students hail from the Bahamas and we will continue to assist wherever we can, whether it is welcoming students from the affected areas to Florida Prep, sending aid or simply keeping the ongoing crisis at the forefront of our community communications.”
