ABOVE LIVESTREAM: Northrop Grumman’s Pegasus XL ICON Air-Launch Set For Thursday Night
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Due to weather in the area, NASA and Northrop Grumman decided to move the Pegasus XL and ICON launch 24-hours to Thursday, October 10 at 9:30 p.m.
Coverage will start around 9:15 p.m.
The air-launched rocket will deploy NASA’s Ionospheric Connection Explorer (ICON) satellite into orbit.
Pegasus XL will release off the aircraft at an altitude of 39,000 feet

According to Space FlightNow, ICON will study the ionosphere, a region of Earth’s upper atmosphere where terrestrial weather meets space weather.
Disturbances in the ionosphere triggered by solar storms or weather activity in the lower atmosphere can cause disturbances in GPS navigation and radio transmissions.
