Silent Film Classic: Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde From 1920 To Be Shown At Cocoa Village Playhouse on Saturday

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Nearly 100 years ago, the silent film classic Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde captured audiences’ imaginations when it was shown for the first time in 1920.

This Saturday, the The Historic Cocoa Village Playhouse will show the classic film as people get ready for Halloween.

The film starts at 7:30 p.m. with ticket prices set at $13 per person.

In 1920, filmgoers were treated to no fewer than two different film versions of Robert Louis Stevenson’s Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

In this one, John Barrymore plays the humanitarian Dr. Henry Jekyll, who becomes obsessed with the notion of separating the good and evil impulses within every man. To this end, he develops a potion which unleashes his own darker side: the demonic Mr. Hyde.

For this screening, transport yourself back in time in our historic theatre, built in 1924 as a movie theatre for silent motion pictures. To further enhance the experience, J. Thomas Black, Jr. will play live musical accompaniment as the silent film plays on screen, just as was done back in the early days of cinema. A truly unique and long lost experience brought back for one night only!
